There are currently several questions when it comes to both the primary supply and the establishment of a circular economy of nickel. Eight experts in nickel markets, lithium-ion battery supply-chains and the automotive sector analysed the EU’s ability to independently source and supply the required nickel resources.

The result is a global forecast that considers Europe’s place in the international context of EV transition and adoption over the next 20 years, and a fine-grained collection of policy responses that the EU could put in place. The report concludes that long-term strategic shifts must be made to address all aspects of the nickel supply chain, as high-quality Class I nickel is essential for the batteries that will drive EV adoption and cut greenhouse gas emissions.
